Maritime Academy of Nigeria takes delivery of Helicopter Underwater Escape Training equipment

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron Akwa Ibom, has received Helicopter Underwater Escape Training equipment.

This is additional to  the Full Mission Bridge, the Full Engine Room and the Multifunctional simulators, which were commissioned in February 2021 by the Hon. Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

The Helicopter Underwater Escape training equipment is used to simulate a helicopter crash in a controlled environment like a training basin, in order to see how those being trained would respond in their efforts to escape.

Speaking on the arrival of the equipment to the Academy, the Rector, Commodore Duja Effedua (Rtd.), said the training is mandatory by the International Maritime Organisation.

The training, he added, would further equip cadets who would be getting same quality training obtainable globally.

The training, which costs about $5000 USD for a week-long programme in places like the United Arab Emirate, is compulsory and important for people who work offshore and are regularly transported to their work locations via the helicopter.
