Shippers’ Council seeks waiver on demurrage covering protest period
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council is holding talks with shipping companies in Nigeria on how waivers would be considered for cargos that could not be cleared from the ports in the past week as a result of the protests that rocked the nation.
The Council in a statement, said it became expedient to find ways to ease the hardship caused by the disruptions from the protests, just as it did during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The Council said both sides were mulling the removal of demurrage charges on cargoes as one of the ways to alleviate the hardship facing shippers.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Hassan Bello, is scheduled to visit some terminals to further discuss on the waiver and other issues.
