Rear Admiral Gbassa advises students, staff against drug abuse
As part of measures to enhance civil-military relations, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa, organised a free medical programme to alleviate the health challenges of the staff, students and pupils of Immanuel Anglican School Apapa.
In a statement, Spokesman of the Command, Edward Yeibo, said the Flag Officer Commanding used the opportunity to advice staff, students and pupils of Immanuel Anglican School to avoid substance abuse.
Admiral Gbassa reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to her corporate social responsibilities is a key priority in the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo which is aimed at sustaining relationships and showing concern for the welfare of the Nigerian Navy host communities.
The Flag Officer Commanding emphasized that the medical rhapsody was organized as part of the activities to serve Nigerian Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility objectives.
He asserted that Immanuel Anglican School was carefully chosen because of its relevance to the upbringing of children in the Headquarters, Western Naval Command immediate environment.
He added that the exercise was meant to offer public health, educational services and presentation of free medical items.
Admiral Gbassa reiterated that the Nigerian Navy usually reached out to larger populations through its comprehensive medical outreaches, but the COVID 19 pandemic had limited the scope of this year’s medical outreach.
Hence, the Nigerian Navy through the Western Naval Command mobilized Obisesan Naval Medical Centre Apapa to reach out to the beneficiaries of the medical rhapsody via presentation of medical items.
Health awareness lectures were equally delivered to the students and pupils of Immanuel Anglican School Apapa, Lagos.
The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command concluded that he is optimistic that as nations win the battle against COVID 19 pandemic, subsequent medical outreaches would assume its usual robust nature.
The Vicar of the Anglican Church, Dr. Fred Ekeke who was represented by Reverend Cannon Bassil Iberosi thanked the Flag Officer Commanding and the entire Nigerian Navy community for the philanthropic gesture.
He said the presentation of the medical items and other materials will go a long way to meet the medical needs of the staff, students and pupils of Immanuel Anglican School Apapa.
He maintained that the Nigerian Navy is a unique service that is known for uprightness and moral decorum.
